Free Crochet Pattern: Another Sherlock Holmes Hat for Babies

image image image

I guess, every young mum thinks her baby is groing incredibly fast. But, in my case this is actually really true and the Sherlock Holmes style hat I crocheted for him for Christmas is already too small. So I restarted crocheting a bigger hat. This time I wanted a really Sherlock-ish hat with long ear covers and two brims and everything. Actually, I really like how it turned out and hope so do you.

For babies from 6 months on you’ll need:

100g of mercerised brown or grey cotton dk yarn. I used drops muskat, which is 100m on 50g.

Crochet hook no. 4

You work in spirals

For the ear cover start in front of the back fphdc as follows:

9. Row: ch, hdc, dec hdc, 4 hdc, 3 hdc in next stitch, 4 hdc, 2 dec hdc (15 hdc)

13. Row: 2 ch, crochet 4 dc together and add 30 ch

Cut yarn and tie up the ear covers

For the back brim crochet: sl, sc, hdc, [inc dc, dc] 5x, hdc, sc, sl (21)

Cut yarn and sew up the ends

To pull the hat into a nice form, I wet it and put it over a polystyrene ball, then I pull the ear covers into form and pin them to the ball. When the hat has dried, it will stay in this form.

Have fun crocheting!
