How to crochet a little cat (free pattern)

Honestly, who does not like little kittens? I guess, really nobody can resist those little creatures. The only thing I wonder about is, why I have not come up with this pattern earlier. Well, sometimes you just need a little push from somewhere, don’t you think so? My „push“ was a custom request for a cat keychain. So I worked out this pattern and hope that you enjoy it as much as I do. But let’s stop the talking and plunge into crocheting right away!

You need

Up to one skein of yarn in your main color (depending on your yarn’s weight. You can also use 2 or 3 colors as I did for one of the kittens you see in the pictures, but this means you’ll have to change colors a lot and, for keeping it simple, I did not include this in the pattern)

Safety eyes size 6mm or 8mm depending on your yarn’s weight

Filling

Crochet hook, which is slightly too small for your yarn (I use 2,0 when 3,0 or higher is recommended)

Scissors, needles and everything you need to make yourself comfortable while crocheting.

Face

Using simple straight stitches you embroider a small triangle to the front of the head in order to form the nose. Either black or light pink yarn will look most realistic for the cat’s nose. Use black yarn to do one straight stitch from the nose downwards. Then use another straight stitch to form the mouth. The vertical stitch should meet the mouth in its middle. For the whiskers you do two stitches forming a small horizontal v on the left and on the right side of the nose. (Check pictures for the embroidery of the face)

Ready you are with your sweet kitten!
