Free Crochet Pattern: Lion Father and Son (or Mother and Daughter)

image1(10)Here comes a new free crochet pattern from my series „animal with kid“. This time I designed a lion father with his teenage son for my wildlife-mobile-project. Best about this amigurumi pattern is, that you can easily turn father into mother and son into daughter by leaving out the mane, if you want. So here we go:

You’ll need:

Cotton yarn in orange and a slightly too small crochet hook. I used drops Muskat and a 2.5mm hook

Crochet yarn in yellow. I used Rico Essentials Crochet and a 0.75mm hook

Cotton yarn in red

Bits and pieces of black cotton yarn and black crochet yarn for noses

4mm safety eyes

soft stuffing

comb

Abbreviations:

Ch = chain
Sc = single crochet
Sl = sling stitch

Tail

Crochet 15ch to the back of the body. Cut 3 small pieces of red cotton yarn (about 1cm) and pull them through the last ch. Take one single ply of red cotton yarn and tie it around the bushy part of the tail and form a nice tassel. Cut the ends of the red ply so you cannot see anymore that the tassel is tied up.

Mane

Cut about 15 pieces of red cotton yarn (length about 3 cm). Start to tie them to the head right behind the ears and work your way down the head. Tie one piece of cotton in approximately every 2nd stitch. Comb the mane in the end so that it looks nice and thick.

Stitch the nose on the face with black yarn in the end

Mane

Cut about 4 pieces of red cotton yarn (length about 1 cm). Tie them into 2 stitches right in the middle of the ears and at each side of the face. You may now cut these tufts of hair to let them look fluffy or you can comb them over the head to form a youth mane.

Stitch the nose on the face with black yarn in the end
