This autumn in Hamburg, it’s about as sunny as can be, and so I enjoy going out to the park looking at wonderful golden trees. But however, you cannot alway be outside which is why I designed this cute little apple. It will bring the autumn sun into your house, making it even more fluffy and cozy. It also makes a lovely toy in your child’s kitchen. And of course you can decide whether you want to give it a face or rather crochet a realistic fruit. But I guess you want to start right away, so let’s go!
What you’ll need:
1 skein of yarn in the colour you’d like your apple to have (I chose yellow, so I could use red for the cheeks, but you could also take any other colour combination you like), bits and pieces of red, green, brown and black yarn, crochet hook, which is too small four your yarn (I chose 2.5 although 3.5 was recommended for my yarn), filling, needle and scissors.
Abbreviations:
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
dec – decrease
hdc – half double crochet
inc – increase
sc – single crochet
sl – slip stitch
st – stitch
Start with brown yarn (we work in spirals)

Stuff apple, but not too tightly. Keep the brown yarn tail visible, because we will need it later. 41. R: [2 sc, dec] x 6 (18 sc) 42. R: [sc, dec] x 6 (12 sc) 43. R: 6 dec (6 sc)
Cut yarn and sew up the end. Then take the brown yarn tail from the beginning. Put it on your needle and go into the apple with it again, bring it all the way up to the stalk (you might have to squeeze the apple a bit together to do that). Sew up the yarn end. Your apple should now have a realistic form.
Cheeks (2 x)
- R: 6 sc into magic ring
- R: 6 inc (12 sc)
Cut yarn and leave a long tail for sewing it to the apple. When you have done the two cheeks sew them to your apple on the right and left side of the front.
Leaf
- R: 11 ch
- R: 9 sc (start from the second ch from hook), 4 sc into the last ch, 9 sc (on the other side of the chains)
- R: 2 sl, sc, 3 hdc, 4 dc, 3 dc into the next 2 stitches, 4 dc, 3 hdc, 3 sl
Cut yarn and sew up all ends. Sew leaf to the stalk.
Now embroider the face as you see it on the pictures.
Ready you are with your cheeky apple.
Have fun crocheting!
