Crochet for Christmas Part 3: Christmas Tree Ball Frosty the Snowman

Unbekannt(1)As you might have noticed, I’m already in to my crocheting for Christmas this year – after all, I want to publish some Christmas patterns here, before the first advent calendars are hanging. When I was a little girl, my mom always used to put some little things in my calendar which could be hung into the Christmas tree. I thought, this made the decoration of the tree one day before Christmas eve really special. So if you want to put some small decoration items into your DIY calendar or if you just want to make your home a little more jolly, here comes (and there will be more) a quick Christmas Tree Ball Amigurumi pattern of Frosty the Snowman. He is a very traditionally built guy with an old pot as a hat and a carrot as nose – just as we made them when we were little.

You need:

A little bit of yarn in white, grey, orange and black. I used mostly cotton DK yarn, just for the carrot nose I found lighter yarn more suitable, so I used a cotton 6 ply yarn.

Hook sizes 3.00 und 2.00

Soft filling

Abbreviations:

ch – chain

dec – decrease

inc – increase

sc – single crochet

sl – slip stitch

Let’s go:

In white and with 3.00 hook

1. Round: 6 sc into a magic ring (6sc)
2. Round: inc 6 (12 sc)
3. Round: [sc, inc] 6x (18 sc)
4. Round: [sc 2, inc] 6x (24 sc)
5. Round: [sc 3, inc] 6x (30 sc)
6. – 8. Round: 30 sc
9. Round: [sc 4, dec] 6x (25 sc)
10. Round: [sc 3, dec] 6x (20 sc)
11. Round: [sc 2, dec] 6x (15 sc)
12. Round: [sc, dec] 6x (10 sc)
13. Round: dec 6 (5 sc)

Cut yarn and sew up the ends

Old Pot Hat:

In grey and with hook size 3.0

1. Round: 6 sc into a magic ring (6sc)
2. Round: inc 6 (12 sc)
3. Round: [sc, inc] 6x (18 sc)
4. Round: [sc 2, inc] 6x (24 sc)

5. Round: 24 sc into the loop behind the two upper loops of the stitch (as seen in example picture)

6. – 7. Round 24 sc
8. Round: 4 sc, ch 6, sk 2, 10 sc, ch 6, sk 2, 6 sc
9. Round: 4 sl, 6 sc around the chain, 10 sl, 6 sc around the chain, 6 sl, sl into the first sl of the round

Cut yarn and sew up the end

Carrot Nose:

In orange and with hook size 2.00

1. Round: 8 sc – crochet them directly to the head, a little underneath the middle, 2 sc each to form a square
2. Round: 8 sc
3. Round: [sc 2, dec] 2x (6 sc)
4. Round: 6 sc
5. Round: [sc, dec] 2x (4 sc)

Cut yarn and sew up the end

Stitch the eyes on with cross stitch in black (do it 2 times on each side, so that the eyes become more haptic)

Sew the hat to the head. One corner should slightly touch one eye.

To balance a yarn loop for hanging your Christmas Ball into the tree, try to put a needle through a stitch on top of the head. If you hold it on one end and you like the way the ball hangs, this is where you should put your yarn loop. If you do not like it, try another stitch until you found one which suits you.

Have fun crocheting!
